The legs makes a discreet bend that transitions into a crossbar, allowing the sofa to stand firmly on any surface. Thanks to the double-coated steel frame, it requires no maintenance. Plants can grow on this trellis-like bench and in time cover it completely. Letting culture slowly blend in with nature! There is a playfulness in the soft forms and slender straightforward structure of the Gardeners Sofa.

Growing up on an island in the Stockholm archipelago, the sea and the rugged island environment are constant companions in Eva Schildt’s artistic practice. Since graduating in Furniture and Product Design from Beckmans College of Design, Stockholm, in 2001, Schildt has designed everything from furniture to textiles, packaging and trade fair showcases. She also works as an interior architect. The materials and techniques vary; sometimes it is about crafts, sometimes serial production. Inspired by nature, the design, which is often sculptural, has virtually always comprised elements of humour and multifunctionality. View all products from Eva Schildt
There is playfulness in the soft forms and slender straightforward structure that is a common theme in Eva Schildt’s design since more than two decades. The starting point for Gardener’s sofa was a strong need to get outdoors regardless of the season. And also, to make outdoor seating with a sculptural presence beyond just mere function.
An outdoor seating for breakfast in the sun, a Swedish fika, a refreshing glass in the afternoon, browsing a book or chatting with friends. Gardener’s sofa is not only for young and old, it will also let flowers and plants twine intricate patterns around its slender yet sturdy lattice-like steel structure. Spring, autumn, even winter, and definitely summer, Gardener’s sofa extends the seasons and is always available. Put the bench in the garden among trees and greenery, or on a generous balcony, and why not on a porch or any outdoor space? Let the Gardener’s Sofa furnish the modernist indoor/outdoor design scheme that turns outdoor space into habitable living areas. Eva Schildt’s design is a true fusion of culture and nature captured in a seamless continuation.
Eva Schildt launched her design before the present trend for a closer connection with nature took hold. ’My degree work was all about integrating form and function of objects with nature, and Gardener’s Sofa is all about truly relating to context. Plants can grow on this trellis-like bench and in time cover it completely. Let culture slowly blend in with nature!’
’I was pining for warmer climates back when I studied at Beckmans College of Design in 2001,’ Eva Schildt remembers, ’But you shouldn’t complain about the cold here in Sweden, you have to get out anyway! I designed this sofa along with a table, and even a insulated and waterproof picnic blanket.’
Gardener’s sofa requires no maintenance thanks to the double-coated steel work; it will always extend a welcome regardless of the weather. The quiet clean understated Scandinavian look will let the bench almost disappear in any garden, and yet be a clear presence always at hand. While not accommodating people, the sofa will be content to let nature’s plants use it as trellis where to twine all kind of greenery.
