It is time to reconnect with nature. To get out under the shadow of trees, amongst lush bushes and flowers, wading in creeks, and all the way down to the sea. The relation to nature is an essential part of being human, but too often lost in the urban maze and our obsession with electronic and virtual worlds. When the sun is out, the sky is blue, and birds chirping happily, or even when icy snow covers the lawns, it’s the easiest thing in the world to pack down what you need and explore the city and its environs. Urban Thermal Backpack is the ultimate solution for bringing something cool, or hot, to that favorite spot where you chat and admire the view along with friends, or listen to a podcast or reading that mesmerizing book all alone.
Eva Schildt’s Urban Thermal Backpack is created for an urban nomad exploring what the city can offer beyond home and the usual places. And not just only for a day out in the sun, Urban Thermal Backpack’s sturdy yet soft design is perfect for bringing along a computer to a café, to an outdoor gathering, or carrying other fragile electronic devices, or just anything needed out in the cityscape.
’I was longing for hot places when I created this project at Beckmans College of Design back in 2001,’ says Eva Schildt, ’but you can’t complain about the cold here in Sweden, you have to get out anyway! I made an insulated blanket so you could keep warm sitting on the snow, I made an outdoor table that welcomed some rain by collecting the water, and of course the Urban Thermal Backpack to bring hot or cold things to my best picnic spots in the city.’ The spacious design, made in cotton canvas with a polyester lining and long-lasting strong thermal sheet, has a direct simplicity with a retro feeling. Perfect on a bike, on an e-scooter, on a skateboard, in a cab, or simply on foot.
A backpack for the urban nomad doesn’t need high-tech complex solutions. You are not going for the far-away mountains or the Amazonas. At the same time, you are definitely worth something more durable sturdy and elegant than the usual flimsy, torn-prone, logotyped flashy offerings. Urban Thermal Backpack is quintessential Scandinavian design with a straightforward raw and honest simplicity. Cold drinks, lemonade, wine, or a hot meal, the backpack’s good insulation foam and strong protective inner foil will keep the temperature while also being easily cleaned.
’Urban Thermal Backpack will protect your things regardless if you are making your way through a bustling city or stacking it under your seat on a train or a plane,’ explains Anders Färdig, founder of Design House Stockholm, ’it is strong yet soft on the outside with a silver lining on the inside.’ Eva Schildt saw her creation in production by Design House Stockholm soon after it was presented the very first time, now it’s back and ever more popular. Urban Thermal Backpack is made in three colors: navy blue, black, and olive green. The lengths of the straps are adjustable by Velcro fasteners, and the lid will protect the zip. Urban Thermal Backpack is a carryall with a no-frill simplicity made especially for the serendipitous outdoor life of the true urban nomad.
